Kenn Andersen (aka FansFiltration) "Fukushima and The Pacific ☢ Survey Reef Dive 04-20-16 - Kahekili Beach Park, Maui (aka Old Airport Beach)"
Took this video in Maui this week...
"Pacific Ocean and effects from Fukushima". Shore Diving on 04-20-16, at the reef just off of Kahekili Beach Park (aka Old Airport Beach) on Maui. I'm personally recording changes in the amount of sea life and overall health of this coral reef over the next 5 to 10 years. Depth between 15 - 30 feet. I have seen this reef much more lively then this in years past! Here is the GoPro video. Last dive I did at this spot two years back there had been a lot of Sea Stars, Sea Urchins, and varieties of larger size fish (such as triggerfish). Very few seen on this dive. The absence of the usual color and many species found in these waters in years past, is very troubling.
I plan to make more routine survey dives (and videos) around the Pacific over the next few years. I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
Here are the same waters just two years back in 2014.

Thank you for uploading this. I'd been trying to find anything regarding the effects on life/sea life around Hawai'i, and it's near impossible. Stunning -and horrible- the difference. I can only imagine what it may have looked at pre-3/11. =(

Kenn, thank you. I don't have anything to go by, other than my own experience in the late 80s and early 90s, snorkeling off of Oahu. It was in shallow water and the amount of fish there (with many other tourists in the water), was so impressive. The fish were all around and only inches away. So many different ones and the colors were stunning. This is so heartbreaking to see. You understand the importance to help show the world. God bless you.
Thank you Fans! This is stunning and so very heartbreaking but so necessary to document. This must have been tough for you to see. Thank you for documenting this. I appreciate it and soon the world will as well.

starlight: Perfect and then some! Dana is burning through the cash on some top notch state of the art tech and for those who can afford to, every pound is cherished and used in this endeavour. Presentation is vital and he’s come so far!

starlight: Posting the links in the chat now you have made the thread is perhaps a mistake, I say this in all good faith and only because eventually the chat will be erased by new chat posts which, though slow, require space of their own. Best wishes for 2019!

millie: Hi, Starlight. No problem. I posted here because the thread is not visible to the outside world, just members apparently. I post in enough other places it's not a big deal. Thanks for the correction, and Happy New Year!

starlight: Are you experiencing difficulties building a thread? For certain things such as expanding pictures one has to log in but building a thread is still possible I’m sure. Don’t give up just yet!

starlight: Linking to YouTube here will result in slower page redraws over time on a thread as pages grow, so that’s frustrating! Linking to multiple vids in a single

starlight: post will result in slow page redraw, cumbersome. So don’t try to post Dana’s entire output retrospectively but stuff you have a comment on .... might be a good balance? It’s tricky! I have just one thread and go there to post my contribution over time.

millie: For #Fukushima's eighth anniversary (3/11), netc.com was taken down so we can't see the EPA radiation levels. Therefore we should conclude that everything is a-ok. Not.
