In a nutshell: US interests pushed that US-friendly part of Ukraine to switch from a working Russian fuel to their Westinghouse fuel. They broke the plant with that switch because the new fuel is in different shaped rods. Square peg in round hole. All the dope - flyingcuttlefish.wordpress.com/nukenado/

Leuren Moret recently explained that after the Chernobyl accident the radiation in the air killed all the fungus and microscopic life in the nearby forests that break down fallen leaves and twigs etc. on the forest floor. So the woods are very deep in dead leaves and branches and twigs having never decayed. So a forest fire there is very different than the regular kind. It has much more to burn and burn quickly. The tree roots burn and smolder underground and the rad levels are so high firemen cannot stick around long to put out hot spots. The fires keep flaring up again once they start.
