I've been working on a spread sheet to convert Ce 137 Geiger counter readings in CPM to Dose rate per year.
There are a few steps to calculate the ratio to convert from CPM to yearly DOSE rate in Sieverts.
1) first thing to understand is 1 cpm = 0.000003 uSv/hr
Then it's easy to figure out YEARLY dose rate from CPM.
Example.
0.02628 x CPM = Dose Sv/year
CPM = 43 what is the yearly DOSE in Sieverts?
1) 43 cpm x 0.000003 = 0.000129 uSv/hr
2) 0.000129 uSv/hr x 24 hrs = 0.003096 uSv/day
3) 0.003096 uSv/day x 365 days = 1130040 uSv/year
4) 1.130 Sv/year DOSE RATE
So reduced down to a single calculation it looks like this:
0.000003 x 24 x 365 = 0.02628
43 cpm x 0.02628 = 1.130 Sv/year dose rate
USE the 0.02628 ratio to calculate Dose per year in Sieverts from cpm.
enjoy
